How Sitebulb helps StudioHawk accelerate SEO results for clients

The Client

StudioHawk is a specialist SEO agency, named Best Global Large SEO Agency in 2021 and 2023 at the Global Search Awards. With offices in London and “down under” in Australia, the team works with clients across a range of industries, from large ecommerce to medical and hospitality.

We caught up with Sophie Gibson, Tech SEO Director, who has introduced Sitebulb to all three agencies she’s worked at! Let’s find out what she loves about it so much.

The Challenge

Agencies need to conduct frequent website audits for new business proposals. For every proposal, we conduct an audit of the client’s website in order to identify the key issues and opportunities we would want to tackle.

We’re big fans of Screaming Frog and we still use it now. However, at StudioHawk we like to train SEOs from the ground up, which means we have several less experienced team members who would struggle to interpret Screaming Frog data. As a tool, it’s not very intuitive, and it takes a long time to learn all the things you can do with it and how to do those things.

The Solution

StudioHawk began using Sitebulb Pro in 2022. My team has found the following features particularly beneficial:

Issue prioritization

When we do a Sitebulb audit for new proposals, our aim is to do a quick crawl to get an immediate list of those big issues to talk about with the client. Sitebulb has really helped us to prioritize our work because it breaks down the data and prioritizes the issues for you, showing you which ones are most critical.

Then, once the client is onboarded with us, we connect up all the Google integrations and do a much more in-depth dig around the website. We can, for example, easily spot content issues and opportunities. With Sitebulb, we can quickly see pages that haven’t seen any traffic in the past 12 months and then build our content strategy around those quick wins. So, for instance, do we need to merge, remove, or optimize content, or even overhaul the entire content plan if certain types of content aren’t working.

Sitebulb makes it super easy to spot those opportunities.

Hints, documentation & intuitive interface

One of the best things about Sitebulb is how intuitive it is to use. I can’t overstate its user-friendliness. It’s not a tool that only experienced technical SEOs can use. You can show juniors how to use Sitebulb; it’s not daunting and you don’t need to know everything in order to start using it.

It’s also a really useful learning resource. A lot of us learn by doing, so it’s only when you get to a particular issue that you really understand what it is and how to deal with it. Sitebulb is really useful from that perspective because it provides the Hints and explanations right at the point you’re encountering the issues.

“I learned more about technical SEO reading the documentation relating to Hints within 6 months than the previous year working in SEO.”

It’s much easier for us now to teach juniors and show people the ropes using Sitebulb.

Content extraction

At StudioHawk, we work with a lot of ecommerce sites, so I love using Sitebulb’s content extraction tool. I can easily pull how many products are in each collection, which is useful to figure out if there are some that are overpopulated with products and can be broken down into further sub-categories; and vice versa, if there are any categories without products that should be looked at.

This allows us to be strategic really quickly with ecommerce category opportunities and match up search demand with stock, which is a great way to add value for those clients.

The Results

The main thing that Sitebulb has helped us with is the speed and convenience with which we can spot those obvious things that are holding back client performance. This means we can get results for our clients quicker.

In terms of deliverables, using Sitebulb means we can get our tech audits done faster – within 2 weeks of working with the client – which means we can get the website basics all fixed up as soon as we’ve onboarded them.

Ultimately, the quicker we can get audits done, the quicker we can make improvements and start making the website work harder for us. It means we can get going so much faster and start enjoying those quick wins.

That rapid diagnosis is critical at every stage of our agency process, whether we’re at proposal stage or several years into working together.

“With Sitebulb, we can get proposals done super quickly AND we’re able to send over deliverables quicker once we start working together. This is especially important in those initial stages of working together. That convenience and speed is invaluable in agency SEO.
