Sitebulb Audits Usage Data

Every day, thousands of website audits are carried out by Sitebulb users. For each audit, the user needs to make various choices: how do they want to crawl the website, and what data do they want to collect?

We collect and aggregate this data (anonymized) to better understand how our customers use the software.

This usage data reveals how SEOs think about JavaScript rendering, based on their actions.

JavaScript Crawler Selection

To explain the graph below, the lighter colour shows data up to the point of last year's study. The trend since then could not be clearer: JavaScript crawling has taken over as the dominant choice, and it is now selected twice as often as non-JavaScript crawling.

Response vs Render Feature Adoption

Again, the lighter colour in the graph below represents the data included in last year's study, which charts how often Sitebulb users switch on the optional 'Response vs Render' feature. Since then, adoption has continued apace, seeming to settle around the 40% mark. This reflects just how important SEOs feel it is to understand the impact of rendering.

Patrick Hathaway

“Honestly, I am buoyed by these results. While survey data can give us an idea of perception and attitudes, usage data tells us about the choices real SEOs are making through their actions. Crawling with the JavaScript crawler is fast becoming the only way to crawl, and nearly half the time SEOs are actively looking into differences caused by rendering. Very encouraging all round! ”
