Investigating JavaScript SEO

It’s our job as SEOs to investigate the issues we find and recommend solutions to our clients or stakeholders, so this section dives into how the survey respondents feel about the reality of investigating SEO issues caused by JavaScript.

  • 68.1%of SEOs said they know how to determine whether a site has significant dependence on JavaScript.

  • 30.9%said they don't feel comfortable investigating SEO issues caused by JavaScript.

  • 32.9%said they don't feel comfortable explaining SEO issues caused by JavaScript to clients and stakeholders.

Do you know how to determine whether a site has significant dependence on JavaScript?

A third of respondents (31.9%) aren’t sure how to determine if a website is significantly reliant on JavaScript.

How comfortable do you feel investigating SEO issues caused by JavaScript?

Perhaps unsurprisingly then, around a third of respondents aren’t comfortable investigating SEO issues caused by JavaScript.

How comfortable do you feel explaining SEO issues caused by JavaScript to clients and stakeholders?

Similarly, around a third of respondents aren’t comfortable explaining these SEO issues to stakeholders.

“From the answers to this section of the survey, we can see that there's an important gap in the existing resources and tools helping SEOs to audit and assess JS related SEO configurations and potential issues. It would be great to see Google providing a clearer status of what they see from our site pages in bulk too via the Google Search Console to facilitate this understanding even further.”
